The Thunderous Sounds of Hemorage

Hemorage: Stitch – Guitar+Vocals, Rambo – Bass, Saint – Guitar, Grumpy – Drums

Hometown: San Francisco

Label: DIY

Hemorage has built a great following in the San Francisco Bay Area with their tenacious DIY attitude and in your face metal music. Their hard work and great tunes has a fan base that is spreading throughout the US and across many international borders. These guys are some of the hardest working musicians I’ve seen and it’s what we love to talk about at Joey Voodoo. Bands like Hemorage deserve to be heard and the best thing about them, besides their music, is their attitude about not following the mainstream!

I had the pleasure to catch up with, lead singer and front man, Stitch to talk about what’s on tap in 2012 for Hemorage.

Joey: Sticth!! What’s good my man? Introduce the band real quick and tell the good people where you guys are from and how long you been together?

Stitch: Hey whats up dude. We are Hemorage (Stitch, Rambo, Saint, and Grumpy) and we are from San Francisco. We’ve been playing for 4 years.

Joey: I’ve known you for a few years now and what I admire about you and the band is your DIY attitude. You guys are busting your ass all the time hustling and playing tons of shows. Tell us more about this attitude and how you like getting your music to the masses? [Read more...]

The Aggressive Chaos of Scythe

South Central Los Angeles is home to the thunderous and intense thrash metal music of Scythe. Erik Soto (vocals/bass), Jose Verde (drums), Dan Carballo (guitar), and Lerry “Moose” Ortega (guitar) are responsible for the aggressive chaos that has left a lasting impression on the metal scene. I was able to catch up with Moose Ortega to fire off a few questions…

Joey: How did the band form and how long have you been together?

Moose: I think “young teenage motherfuckers with nothing else to do” sums it all up. We all met through friends during our high-school years and word spread of each others need to be in a band. So we just met up one day after school to check out Dan (guitarist) and his brother jam out and it grew from there. I mean that’s what it was at first just us messing around with Metallica and Ramones covers. It was interesting because we were just finding out about all this extreme music. Fast Forward 6 years and here we are, still rocking the fuck out.

Joey: Your music is in your face metal and intense…I love the energy it creates. What influences your music and creativity? [Read more...]

Music Artist of the Week: So Many Ways

Pop-Punk, thrash…whatever you want to classify their music as, So Many Ways is delivering a melodic aggressive punk sound that will surely catch your attention and keep you engaged. Colin Corley (vocals), Jason Mibank (guitar/vocals), Murphy Welch (guitar/vocals), Keith Dow (drums), and Chris Catterson (bass) have just released their self titled EP “So Many Ways” on Mightier Than Sword Records. I had the pleasure to throw a few questions out to lead singer Colin Corley!

Joey: Fellas what’s happening? Please introduce yourselves and tell us how long the current line-up has been together?

Colin: Hey man! My name is Colin and I sing/yell for So Many Ways. Our lineup has gone through a few members changes over the near-three year existance of the band, but the current lineup has been together since last June. Our bass player Chris was in the band for a while, moved back to his home state of Florida, but finally returned to us around May. And I must say that we are incredibly happy that he’s back. I don’t believe our lineup could be any more solid then it is now.

Joey: I was stoked to listen to your recently release self title album So Many Ways! I’m a huge fan of punk and your music is so on point!   Tell us more about the album and what inspired the song writing?

Colin: Thank you so much man! We’re so glad you dig it. With this EP, we really wanted to evolve and push ourselves musically. We wanted to move in a different direction and I think we accomplished that. When we start writing our full length soon, we’re going to try to push ourselves even further and try even more new things.

Joey: What bands have been most influential in your music?

Colin: If you asked this question to each member of the band, you would get five completely different answers. For me, the vocalists that have had the most influence on me are Tim Armstrong, Keith Buckley, Toby Morse, Jordan Pundik, Jason Shevchuk, Greg Puciato and Pat Flyn.

Joey: What three words best describe your live show?

Colin: Destroy. Chaos. Pizza.

Joey: What two bands would be on your dream tour?

Colin: For me personally, I would love to tour with Rancid and New Found Glory, two of my favorite bands ever.

Joey: Thanks so much fellas? Any final words or shout outs?

Colin: Thank you for wanting to talk to us! I would definitely like to shout out some incredible bands that I think everyone should check out: Late In The Playoffs, Bayonet, Cave Bear, Stay Ahead Of The Weather, and Revocation.

Oceans of Blood Metalfest Performer: Out For Blood

Next in our showcase of Oceans of Blood Metalfest performers is the San Francisco metal band Out for Blood. These are some real cool dudes as you will see from the interview!!

Joey: Today we have Out for Blood!! What’s happening fellas? Why don’t you introduce yourselves and tell us how long you been together?

Out for Blood: Well currently  there are four of us, Hodari (vocals) Angelo(Guitar) Gabe(Drums) Ivan(Bass) and we have been together for almost 2 years as ” OUT FOR BLOOD.” but Hodari gabe and Ivan had a rockabilly/metal project called Krawlisk  three years ago, and after a few line up and musical changes it ended up evolving into present day OFB.

Joey: It’s great to see a young emerging “metal” band like OFB coming out of the SF. Tell us more about your music and style and musical influences? [Read more...]
