Bold, striking, captivating are just a few words that come to mind when describing the tattoo work of Ernesto Nave. For being a tattooer for only three years, Ernesto’s work will leave you speechless.
Joey: How did you get into tattooing and who gave you your first shot?
Ernesto: I was coming in to the Beauty Mark to get a tattoo, and at the time i was teaching figure drawing at the Cheshire ArtsPlace. Pete, the owner, after learning i gave art instruction asked to barter tattoos for drawing lessons that i would give his apprentices. I started hanging out, and gave it a whirl and had became hooked. I have been working there since.
Joey: You work is fantastic. I really enjoy how bold and striking your colors are. Who or what have influenced your art?
Ernesto: Dan Dos Santos, Frank Frazetta, Iain Mccaig, the guys from Hope Gallery, Mark Ryden, the Illustration Masters Class (IMC).
Joey: When not tattooing or painting what do you do for fun?
Ernesto: I enjoy netflixing it up with my lady…good food, and friends.
Joey: What one celebrity past or present would you love to tattoo?
Ernesto: Manny Paquiao
Joey: What’s your favorite movie?
Ernesto: The End of Evangelion

Juxtapoz brings you a touching and inspirational video by Estevan Oriol on tattoo great Jose Lopez of Lowrider Tattoo.
Tattooing since 2007 Leo Cardenas (Revolution Ink) is quickly making a name for himself in the tattoo world. His artwork is top quality and yet he is aware that he will always be learning. Raised within the world of tattooing (father, Mando Cardenas) and always surrounded by legends, Leo strives daily to be the best that he can be as he continues his journey of gaining as much knowledge as possible.
Joey: Who has been the biggest influence in your tattooing and who gave you your first shot?
Leo: I have a ton of influences, sometimes I feel like I’m over consumed with things that I like. I’m really influenced by Filip Leu, and Shiges tattooing. Growing up in the Bay Area I feel my favorite artist were all around this area. Ever since I was small I remember my dad’s old band Insolence throwing house parties and playing shows at our house. All of my dads band mates and friends were all getting tattooed by guys like GRIME, Adrian Lee, Paco Excel, Schmoe, and I was always intrigued by their tattoos. At that the time it was a lot of graffiti style influence. I find new inspirations all the time, and there always changing and growing. I think when I get tattooed by some of my friends they become a big influence on me, almost like there artwork becomes a part of me too. I’ve been tattooed my Taki of S.O.G, Schmoe, my good friend Mac does great portraits, my friends Gary from L.A does really cool traditional stuff with a realistic feel. Some of those guys were the only people who would help me learn a lot about tattooing and still do.
Joey: Your Japanese work is very well done, as is all your work. Where did the passion for the Japanese arts come from? [Read more...]
We are very pleased to announce that Liz Cook is our “Featured Tattoo Artist.” Liz is quickly making her mark in the tattoo industry as her work will have you doing many double takes. She hasn’t been in the game relatively too long but believe me her work will be talked about for many years to come.
Joey: When did you know you wanted to become a tattooer and who gave you your first shot?
Liz: I think I had wanted to be a tattooer for a long time, I just didn’t realize how much until I got my apprenticeship. Jonny Head from Abandoned Art in Perth Australia gave me my true first shot.
Joey: Your realism and portraits are insane as is all you work. Is there a certain artist that has been influential in your work and style? [Read more...]
